Sunday School Lesson Plans

INTRODUCTION

by Remy C. Marquez

"Suffer little children to come unto me..." Jesus told His disciples (Lk.15:16) and "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Prov. 22:6).

A teacher has to suffer to lead the child in the arduous way he should go, step-by-step, from faith to faith, from grace to grace, to know and love the Savior Jesus Christ. On that basis, the pedagogical approach has to be biblical and the technique participative.

Children, particularly at lower levels are taught by actively participating in the lessons. For this purpose, the question-and-answer mode is used to keep the children attentive. The usual visual aids are minimized to train the children more to listen to the lesson rather than to see the "story" in pictures.

The Sunday School is made less an entertaining and more a training period without losing the excitement of watching the unfolding of the biblical events through the children's own reading and exposition engaging the participation of the children makes the Sunday School time a true learning time, not of the "stories" but of the bible messages.

The experience of the teachers who have been using the lessons shows that some children at a very early age can already read some words They are encouraged to read even a few words of the lesson from the Bible. At higher levels the children read full verses from the Bible. At all levels, the memory is employed in memorizing verses and songs related to the lesson. The testimony of the teachers is that they have the assurance that the children learn the lessons and they themselves receive blessings from using the lessons.

It has been the author's prayer that the Lord would richly bless the use of the lessons in training up the children in the way they should go though the teachers may "suffer" in leading the little ones to the Lord. He has.

May all those who would start to use the lessons be as richly blessed. All praise, honor, and glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who does wonderful works in our lives.
